I’ve received a handful of questions about the free consultations I offer.
Think of an initial consultation like an interview. It’s an opportunity to meet someone you’re considering hiring. This is the place to ask any questions you may have. There are a number of common questions you might want to ask about qualifications, routines, costs, and various policies a care provider may have. The consult is also a chance to ask specifics about your own situation. Are you concerned that you’re not a good candidate for a homebirth? Ask your (possible) midwife what they think.
My consultations typically last half an hour to an hour long and are offered in office in either the Aledo or Fort Worth location. You are not absolutely required to have a consult to start care, but I strongly recommend them.
Your free consultation is not a prenatal. If starting care immediately is needed or desired, I can typically schedule a prenatal visit within a week. No labs will be run, paperwork done, or vitals taken at a consult. This is purely about getting an opportunity to interview your potential midwife.
